Summer Youth Leadership Program

This is a summer long program that empowers young people between the ages of 13-17 to become forerunners in the struggle for social, political, environmental and economic justice. The young people develop leadership skills in community organizing and development, while preserving and learning about the cultural arts prevalent in the Mexican-American community.

Several partnerships with community based organizations in the city have made this program possible in the past. We have partnered with the P.E.A.C.E. Initiative to offer workshops that address violence prevention, Martinez Street Women's Center to offer workshop on health and nutrition, Healthy Futures Alliance to offer a workshop that addressed Teen Pregnancy Prevention, Southwest Workers Union to offer a workshop on Economic Justice, San Anto Cultural Arts to offer a tour of murals that depict our Mexican-American heritage, Little Flower Basilica offered a tour and worksop on Food nutrition and students were able to visit their community garden, many more partnership and workshops have been held. We will provide a full list of our partners as we solidify the ones for this year.

The 2011 program starts June 14th and ends August 5th. To enroll in the program, download the application and submit it to our offices no later than May 9th. Contact our offices for more information.
